Terms of Service

Last updated October 15, 2026

These Terms apply to you from the day you first use the Services on or after October 15, 2026. If you already had an account on that date, they apply to you from November 30, 2026, and we emailed you about the change (section 29). They apply at once to any subscription you start, any purchase you make and any plan change you make on or after October 15, 2026.

Who we are and what these Terms cover

We are The Lils LLC, doing business as The Lils (“The Lils”, “we”, “us”, “our”), a limited liability company registered in the District of Columbia, United States. We operate the website https://thelils.com (the “Site”) and the products and services offered through it (together, the “Services”).

The Lils publishes homemade cat food recipes as digital content, together with guides, articles and other educational content about feeding cats. We also earn income from affiliate links and from social media content.

These Terms are a binding agreement between you and The Lils LLC about your use of the Services. Our Privacy Policy and our Refund Policy are part of these Terms. By creating an account, buying or subscribing, or using the Site, you agree to all of them. If you do not agree, do not use the Services.

You must be at least 18 years old to use the Services, and you must be the holder of any payment card you use, or authorized to use it.

1. Your account

Why you need one. You need an account to buy, to subscribe, to claim free recipes and to use your library. Accounts and sign-in are handled by our sign-in provider, and you can sign in with an email address and password or with a supported sign-in service.

One account, your own. Each person may hold one account, and an account is for one person. Give us accurate information and keep your email address current: we send service messages about your orders, your subscription and your account to that address (section 22). Do not share your sign-in details, let anyone outside your household use your account, or use anyone else’s account. You are responsible for everything done through your account. Tell us at once if you think someone else has used it.

Deleting your account. You cannot delete your account from your account settings. To delete it, ask us through the contact form or by email. Before we delete a subscriber’s account we tell you what ends. Deleting your account ends any subscription at once, nothing more is charged, and there is no automatic refund of a period you have already paid for. Once the account is gone you can no longer open your library or use unused recipe credits, because both exist only inside your account. We anonymize the account and keep the order and billing records the law requires us to keep. Our Privacy Policy explains what is removed and what is kept.

2. Our content and your recipe licence

2.1 What we own

Everything on the Site is owned by The Lils LLC or licensed to us: the recipes, their ingredient lists, amounts and supplement doses, the instructions, the nutrient analyses, the texts, guides and articles, the photographs and videos, the graphics, the software, the design, and our names and logos (together, the “Content”). The Content is protected by copyright, trademark and other laws of the United States and other countries. Nothing in these Terms gives you ownership of any Content.

2.2 The licence you get

When a recipe is in your library (section 3), we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to:

  • view the recipe on the Site, with the features your access level includes (section 9);
  • print it or save a copy for your own use;
  • scale it, where the Site offers scaling, for your own cooking; and
  • cook it for the cats of your household.

The same personal licence applies to the free content on the Site: you may read it and use it at home.

A printed or saved copy stays under this licence. The licence to a recipe ends when the recipe leaves your library (sections 16 and 17) or when your account ends; from then on you may not use any copy of it you printed or saved, and you must delete those copies.

Your household means you, the people who live with you, and the cats you care for at home as a private individual, including a cat you foster at home. It does not include a business, an organization, or anyone else’s cats looked after as a service.

2.3 What the licence does not allow

Our recipes are our work and our livelihood. The licence is what lets us keep publishing them at the price we do, so it is strict. You may not, in whole or in part, directly or through anyone else:

  1. Share or distribute a recipe. Do not post, publish, email, message, print for others, or otherwise pass on any recipe or any part of one, including the ingredient list, the amounts, the supplement doses, the instructions, a scaled version, a nutrient analysis, a screenshot or a printout, to anyone outside your household, whether free or paid.
  2. Sell or transfer. Do not sell, rent, lend, sublicense, trade or give away a recipe, your library, your recipe credits or your account.
  3. Cook from our recipes for others. Do not use our recipes to make food for cats outside your household, whether you sell it, barter it, give it away or supply it as a service, and do not make products for sale or distribution based on them, such as recipe books, apps, courses, meal plans, pre-made meals or commercial cat foods.
  4. Use them commercially. Any commercial or organizational use needs our prior written permission. This includes breeders, catteries, rescues and shelters and their foster programs, boarding and pet-sitting businesses, pet food businesses, and veterinary, nutrition or other professionals feeding or advising on other people’s cats. Write to us; we may offer a commercial licence on its own terms.
  5. Copy, scrape or harvest. Do not copy, scrape, crawl, bulk download or systematically collect Content from the Site, by hand or with any automated tool. Do not use the Content to train, fine-tune or evaluate a machine learning or artificial intelligence system, or to build a dataset, a database or a product that competes with the Services. Our robots.txt file controls crawling for search engines and other automated agents; it is not a licence to copy, store or train on the Content.
  6. Work around our controls. Do not circumvent, disable or interfere with any measure that controls access to Content, including sign-in, the paywall on recipe pages, basic view (section 9), and rate limits, and do not access Content you have not been granted.
  7. Pool accounts or credits. Do not share an account, and do not combine or pool recipe credits across people or households.
  8. Remove our notices or marks from any Content, or present our Content as your own.

Occasional, non-commercial use within your household is what the licence is for: cooking for a friend’s cat while you look after it at home is fine; feeding a client’s cat is not.

2.4 Our trademarks

“The Lils”, our logo and our other marks are ours. Do not use them without our written permission.

2.5 Feedback and messages you send us

If you send us feedback, suggestions or ideas about the Services, you give us a free, perpetual licence to use them for any purpose without any obligation to you. Do not send us anything you consider confidential. Personal information in your messages is handled under our Privacy Policy.

2.6 If you break the licence

Breaking this section is a material breach of these Terms. Section 17 says what we may do.

3. Recipes, updates and your library

Digital content. Our recipes are digital content delivered through the Site. You read them on the Site; we do not send files or physical copies.

Your library. Your library is the list of recipes you have the right to view in full on the Site. A recipe enters your library in one of these ways: a purchase made while recipes were sold one at a time (section 4), a free claim, a recipe credit (section 7), a purchase at the subscriber price (section 8), or a recipe we add for you (section 7). Once a recipe is in your library it stays there, unless it is removed under section 16 (a refund or a chargeback) or section 17 (misuse), or your account is deleted (section 1).

Updates. We may update any recipe at any time: ingredients, amounts, methods, supplement doses, sourcing and nutrient data, for safety, for new research or for improvements. Everyone sees the current version of a recipe, including the recipes in your library, and we do not keep earlier versions available. Some updates are nutrient corrections, which is why we do not offer older versions. We do not promise to tell you about every change, so cook from the current version on the Site rather than from an old printed copy.

Retiring a recipe. We may retire a recipe from sale at any time. A retired recipe cannot be added with a credit or bought any more. If it is already in your library, you keep it.

Merging recipes. If we merge two recipes into one, customers who had either of them keep the recipe that remains.

Availability. We aim to keep the Site available at all times, but we do not promise uninterrupted access. Maintenance, outages and events outside our control can interrupt it.

4. Recipes bought one at a time, and lifetime access

How recipes are sold. Recipes are offered either one at a time, at the price shown on the recipe page, or through a subscription (section 5), as the Site shows at the time. From the day we stop selling recipes one at a time, a paid recipe can be added to a library only through a subscription; free recipes and public samples are not affected. We may switch individual recipe sales off or back on at any time. Our cart and checkout remain for other kinds of products we may sell, on the terms shown at checkout.

Lifetime access for recipes you bought. Every recipe you bought one at a time stays in your library with every feature, including Exact amounts and scaling, with no subscription needed. Free recipes you claimed keep every feature too. A public sample is shown in full to everyone for as long as we offer it as a sample. On our Site, “lifetime access” means this: for as long as The Lils operates the Services and you keep your account. It is subject to section 3 (updates, retirement and merging), section 16 (refunds and chargebacks) and section 17 (misuse). It does not include a right to any particular version of a recipe, to new recipes, or to features we add later.

Your orders. Your order history, receipts and refund records for those purchases stay available on your account page.

5. Subscriptions: the plans

Two kinds of plan.

  • Plans with recipe credits, currently named Monthly and Annual, billed every month or every year. Each gives you recipe credits (section 7) and, where its plan card says so, lets you buy extra recipes at the subscriber price (section 8).
  • Library plans, billed every month or every year, which keep Exact amounts and scaling switched on for the recipes you got through a subscription and give no credits (section 11).

The plan’s numbers are on the plan. The price, the billing interval, the number of credits and when they arrive, and the subscriber price and its monthly limit are shown on the plan card on our pricing page when you subscribe, and on your account page afterwards. The checkout page repeats the price, the billing interval and the tax. The grace period for unused credits (section 7) is a number of days set for your plan; your account page and our emails show the exact last day whenever it applies. Those are the terms of your plan. The version of the plan you bought is the one that applies to you (section 14).

One subscription per account. You need an account, and an account holds one subscription at a time. We do not offer free trials, coupon codes, gift subscriptions or pauses unless we say so in writing.

Payment. You pay by payment card through our payment provider, Stripe, on Stripe’s secure pages. Prices are in US dollars and shown before tax. Tax is calculated at checkout from your billing address and added to each charge. When you subscribe, Stripe keeps your card on file for the renewals. Your invoices, receipts, card and billing address are on Stripe’s hosted billing page, which you reach from your account page. We never see or store your full card number.

Eligible recipes. A plan’s credits add the paid recipes that plan covers. Today every paid recipe is covered by every plan with credits. If we add recipe tiers and plans later, the plan card will say which recipes a plan covers. Free recipes are claimed, not bought, and do not need a credit.

6. Automatic renewal and billing

Your subscription renews automatically. At the end of each billing period (every month or every year, as your plan says) your subscription renews for the same period, and we charge the card on file the plan’s price plus tax, until you cancel. We state this on the checkout page before you pay, and you agree to it there by ticking the box that accepts these Terms.

Reminder before an annual renewal. We email you at least 30 days before an annual renewal with the amount, the date and how to cancel.

Receipts. Stripe emails you a receipt for every charge, with the amount and the tax.

Keeping your card current. Update your card from your account page (Billing and orders) at any time. If a renewal charge fails, section 10 applies.

What you authorize. By subscribing you authorize us, through Stripe, to charge the card on file at each renewal, after a price change made under section 14, and when you switch plans under section 12. Extra recipes (section 8) are paid on Stripe’s page each time you buy one.

7. Recipe credits

What a credit is. A recipe credit lets you add one eligible paid recipe of your choice that is not yet in your library. You use a credit on the recipe’s page. The Site asks you to confirm, and using a credit cannot be undone. The recipe then stays in your library (section 3). It is shown in full view while a plan covers it and in basic view otherwise (section 9).

When credits arrive. Credits are issued only for payments we actually collect by card and keep. A Monthly plan issues its credits for each monthly period you pay for. An Annual plan issues the year’s credits on the schedule its plan card shows: all of them when the year is paid, or some then and the rest one each month, on the monthly anniversary of the day your year started, until the year’s total is reached. The numbers are on your plan card. We email you when a credit is ready.

No credits without a kept payment. A payment that fails, that is refunded in full or that is lost in a chargeback issues no credits, and the unused credits that came from it are removed (section 16). Credits are not issued for an invoice settled by a credit note, an account balance or a payment made outside Stripe.

Unused credits roll over. While you have any live plan, a credits plan or a Library plan, unused credits roll over without limit. If you own every recipe a credit can add, your credits wait for new recipes; we do not promise a number of new recipes or a publishing schedule.

After your subscription ends. When your subscription ends for any reason, your unused credits stay usable without a subscription for the grace period of your plan, counted from the later of the day it ends and the end of the period you had paid for, and then they expire. Your account page and our emails show the exact last day. On an Annual plan, the monthly credits of a year you have paid for keep arriving until the end of that year, even after you cancel. The grace period only runs while you have no plan at all: if you subscribe to any plan before the last day, your credits are kept and roll over again.

Expired credits. Expired credits are not refunded. They come back only in the cases these Terms name: after a chargeback decided in our favor or released after our review (section 16), and when a pause kept you from using them (section 15).

What credits are not. Credits have no cash value and are never exchanged for money, except as section 15 says when we end your access early. They cannot be transferred, sold, gifted, combined across accounts or pooled. They exist only inside your account. They cannot be used on free recipes or on recipes retired from sale, and they can add only the recipes your plan covers.

On hold during a chargeback. All your credits are frozen while a chargeback is open (section 16).

Credits we grant. We may grant credits or a recipe at our discretion, to correct an error or as a goodwill gesture. A grant creates no right to further grants, and granted credits follow the rules of the plan they are granted on.

Credits issued by mistake. If credits reach your account by mistake, for example through a technical error or a grant made to the wrong account, we may remove the ones you have not used, and we tell you when we do.

8. Extra recipes at the subscriber price

The subscriber price. While you are on a Monthly or Annual plan, you can buy extra recipes one at a time at the subscriber price shown on your plan card, up to the monthly limit shown there. Months are counted from the start of your current billing period, not from the first of the month; your account page shows when your allowance resets. Library plans have no subscriber price.

When it is not available. The subscriber price is not available while a renewal payment is overdue, while a chargeback is open or unresolved, or after the payment for your current period has been refunded in full. Once you reach the monthly limit, the recipe waits for the next month or for a credit. While recipes are also sold one at a time, the subscriber price is offered only when it is lower than the price you would otherwise pay.

The recipe you buy. An extra recipe stays in your library and follows the same full view rule as a recipe added with a credit (section 9). All sales are final (section 16).

9. Full view and basic view

Two ways a recipe is shown. Full view is the whole recipe with every feature, including the Exact amounts option (the exact measured amounts) and scaling (changing the batch size). Basic view is the whole recipe without those two features: the ingredient amounts in metric and US units at the recipe’s base batch size, the steps, where to source, the nutrition analysis and the video. A recipe in basic view is complete and can be cooked as written at its base batch size.

Which recipes are always in full view. Recipes you bought one at a time, free recipes and public samples are always in full view, with or without a plan (section 4).

Subscription recipes. Recipes you got through a subscription, with a credit or at the subscriber price, are “subscription recipes”. They are shown in full view while a payment we keep covers today under any of your plans, a credits plan or a Library plan. They are shown in basic view:

  • after your subscription ends, from the end of the period you had paid for;
  • while a renewal payment is overdue (section 10);
  • while a chargeback is open or unresolved (section 16); and
  • when the payment for your current period has been refunded in full (section 16).

They return to full view as soon as a payment we keep covers today again: when you pay the overdue invoice, when you subscribe again, or when a Library plan starts.

Where we tell you. The plan cards, the recipe page (where the two features are shown locked with a short explanation), the cancel dialog and the emails about your subscription say which recipes need a plan for full view. A recipe we add to your library ourselves follows the rule we tell you when we add it. Everyone sees the current version of a recipe in either view (section 3).

10. Failed payments

If a renewal charge fails. If a renewal charge fails, or your bank needs you to confirm it, we email you. Stripe retries the card automatically for a limited time; when your bank needs you to confirm a payment, it waits for you instead. Until the payment goes through, no new credits are issued, the subscriber price is off, and your subscription recipes are shown in basic view. The credits already in your account stay usable. You can pay the open invoice at once with Pay now on your account page, or update your card there.

If the payment is not completed. If the payment is not completed within that time, your subscription ends and we email you. Your unused credits stay usable for the grace period counted from that day (section 7), your library stays, and your subscription recipes are in basic view. You can subscribe again at any time.

Cancelling while a payment is overdue. If you cancel while a renewal is overdue, your subscription ends immediately, the unpaid invoice is cancelled, and nothing more is charged.

11. Library plans

What a Library plan does. A Library plan keeps Exact amounts and scaling switched on for every recipe you got through a subscription. It gives no recipe credits and no subscriber price. It is for subscribers who have built their library and are not adding recipes for now.

Who can subscribe. A Library plan is available only to a customer who already has at least one subscription recipe in their library. The plan card says so, and the Subscribe button is offered only to those customers.

Your credits. Any unused credits you still hold stay usable for as long as a Library plan or any other plan is live; the grace period does not run.

Billing and cancelling. A Library plan renews automatically every month or every year (section 6), is cancelled the same way as every plan (section 13), and follows the same rules for failed payments (section 10) and chargebacks (section 16).

Refunds. All sales are final. The 14 day first-charge window of section 16 does not apply to Library plans.

12. Changing plans

Switching at once. Some plan changes take effect immediately: from Monthly to Annual, from a Library plan to a plan with credits, and from a monthly Library plan to the yearly one. You confirm the switch on a Stripe page that shows the new plan’s price. The new plan starts that day, you pay its full price plus tax that day, and the day you switch becomes your new billing date. Your subscription keeps renewing automatically, now at the new plan’s price and interval, until you cancel. The remaining part of the period you had paid for on the old plan is not refunded and not credited. Your unused credits carry over.

Moving to a Library plan. A move to a Library plan is scheduled, from the cancel dialog or from your account page. It takes effect at the end of the period you have paid for, nothing is charged until then, and you can undo it before that date. Credits and the subscriber price work normally until then. A scheduled move is dropped if you cancel, if a chargeback opens, or if your subscription ends before that date.

Annual to Monthly is not offered. To move to a Monthly plan, cancel and subscribe to Monthly after your year ends.

Which changes are available depends on the plans we offer at the time and is shown on your account page. We may change the list.

The first-charge window and a switch. The annual payment of your first immediate switch to the Annual plan is covered by the 14 day window of section 16, on the same conditions, once per customer.

13. Cancelling, keeping your subscription, and coming back

How to cancel. Online, from your account page, at any time, with no phone call, no chat and no need to give a reason. If a Library plan could keep your recipes in full view, the cancel dialog shows it first, beside the button that goes on with your cancellation; you then confirm, with the end date in front of you.

When it takes effect. A cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you have paid for. Until then your subscription stays active: credits keep arriving on schedule, the subscriber price stays available, and your subscription recipes stay in full view. Nothing more is charged. The rest of the period is not refunded (section 16). The end date is shown in the cancel dialog, on your account page and in the email that confirms the cancellation. The one exception is a cancellation while a payment is overdue, which ends the subscription at once (section 10).

Keeping your subscription. Before the end date you can undo the cancellation with Keep my subscription on your account page, and we confirm it by email. After the end date, you subscribe again.

After the end date. Every recipe stays in your library. Your subscription recipes are shown in basic view unless you have a plan (section 9). Your unused credits stay usable for the grace period and then expire (section 7). You can subscribe again at any time, to the plans and prices offered then; expired credits do not come back.

14. Price and plan changes

Your plan version stays yours. When you subscribe, the numbers of the plan version you bought (the price, the credits and their schedule, the subscriber price and its limit, and the grace period) stay yours for as long as that subscription continues, even if we change the plan for new subscribers.

If we change your numbers. If we move your subscription to new numbers, we email you between 14 and 30 days before the first renewal that is charged at the new price. The change applies from that renewal, never in the middle of a period you have paid for. If you do not want the change, cancel before that renewal and you will not be charged the new price. Where the law of the place you live gives you more, such as a refund of the unused part after a first charge at a higher price, you have that right.

Plans for new subscribers. We may change the plans we offer to new subscribers at any time: their prices, credits, limits and features, and we may add, rename or withdraw plans. Such a change does not affect your subscription except as described above or in section 15.

Products sold one at a time. The prices of products we sell one at a time, including any physical products, may change at any time. The price shown at checkout is the price you pay.

15. If we pause, change or end the subscription program

A temporary pause. To protect the service during an incident we may temporarily stop new subscriptions, plan changes, the use of credits and purchases at the subscriber price. Payments keep being recorded, cancelling keeps working, and your credits and your library are safe. If a pause stops you from using credits before their last day, contact us and we will put it right.

Ending a plan or the program. We may withdraw a plan or end the subscription program. If your plan is affected, we email you at least 30 days before your subscription stops renewing. You keep everything you have paid for: your subscription stays active until the end of the period you have paid for, your unused credits stay usable for the grace period after that, nothing more is charged, and your library stays.

If we end your access early. If we have to end your access before the end of a period you have paid for, because we close the Site or close your account for a reason that is not your breach of these Terms, we refund what you can no longer use: for a plan with recipe credits, the unused credits of the payments we kept, at the price you paid per credit; for a Library plan, the unused part of its period, counted from the day your access ends.

If we close your account by mistake, we restore it.

If we end your account for your breach, section 17 applies and nothing is refunded.

16. Refunds, the 14 day first-charge window, and chargebacks

Our Refund Policy, at thelils.com/refund-policy, is part of these Terms. In summary:

All sales are final. Recipes are digital content, delivered at once, so all sales are final once access is granted. This applies to recipes bought one at a time, to every subscription payment (the first one and every renewal, on Monthly, Annual and Library plans), and to extra recipes bought at the subscriber price. Cancelling a subscription stops future charges and refunds nothing already paid.

The 14 day first-charge window. Your first payment for a plan with recipe credits is refundable on request within 14 days of that payment, if both of these are true: no credit from that payment has been used, and no recipe has been bought at the subscriber price on that subscription on or after that payment. The window exists once per customer, for your first credits subscription. It also covers the annual payment of your first immediate switch to the Annual plan, on the same conditions, once per customer. It never covers a renewal and never applies to a Library plan. Ask us through the contact form or by email within the 14 days. When we refund, the unused credits from that payment are removed and the subscription ends; credits from earlier payments stay usable for the grace period of your plan, counted from the later of the day the subscription ends and the end of the period those payments covered.

Goodwill refunds are at our discretion and create no right to another. A goodwill refund in full of a payment that the window could have covered uses up the window.

What a refund does. A full refund of a payment removes the unused credits that came from it. We may also remove the recipes added with those credits. If, after the refund, no payment we keep covers today, your subscription recipes are shown in basic view and the subscriber price stops until one does. A partial refund changes no credits by itself.

Technical problems. If a technical problem on our side stops you from opening a recipe in your library, tell us and we will restore your access. If you tell us within 7 days of adding the recipe and we cannot restore access, we refund that purchase, or, for a recipe added with a credit, give you a credit back or, if your subscription has ended, add another recipe of your choice to your library in its place. Recipe updates, retirement, or a cat that will not eat a recipe are not technical problems.

Chargebacks. If you dispute a charge with your bank instead of contacting us, this happens, for a chargeback on any subscription payment or extra recipe:

  • while the chargeback is open, all your recipe credits are frozen, your subscription is set to end at the end of the paid period, your subscription recipes are shown in basic view, and you cannot subscribe, switch plans, keep a cancelled subscription or buy at the subscriber price;
  • if the chargeback is decided in our favor, the freeze lifts and your unused credits get a fresh grace period; your subscription stays set to end unless you keep it from your account page;
  • if it is decided against us, your subscription ends at once, the unused credits from that payment are removed, we may remove the recipes obtained with that payment (and, for an order, the recipes that order bought), your credits from other payments stay frozen until we have reviewed the case, and you cannot subscribe again until we clear your account.

A bank inquiry, a question from your bank with no money taken back, changes nothing. Please contact us before disputing a charge; most problems are quicker to fix with us.

The Picky Eater Promise on our home page: if your cat will not eat a recipe, tell us and we will work with you to adjust it: the texture, the preparation style, or the protein source where another version of the recipe or another recipe suits your cat better. It is a help promise. It is not a refund, and a different recipe is added through a credit or a purchase unless we offer it as a gesture.

Supplements and products from other sellers are subject to those sellers’ own return policies.

Your statutory rights. Nothing in this section limits rights that the law of your country, state or province gives you and that cannot be excluded by agreement (section 28).

17. Misuse and its consequences

What counts as misuse. Breaking your recipe licence (section 2), sharing an account, pooling credits, reselling or transferring recipes, credits or accounts, scraping or bulk downloading, working around basic view or the paywall, buying with a card you may not use, abusing chargebacks or refunds, or breaking these Terms in any other way.

What we may do. If you misuse the Services we may do any of the following, with or without notice:

  • suspend or terminate your account;
  • end your subscription immediately, without refunding any payment;
  • cancel your unused recipe credits and switch off your plan’s features, without refund;
  • remove recipes obtained through the misuse or through a payment we did not keep;
  • refuse future subscriptions, purchases or accounts, including accounts opened under another name; and
  • block access to the Site.

Losing your library. Your library exists only inside your account. If we terminate your account for misuse, you lose access to your library, including recipes you paid for, and nothing is refunded.

Legal remedies. We may also take legal action, including claims for damages, for an injunction and for our costs, as the law allows, and we may report unlawful activity to the authorities. Our rights under this section are in addition to every other right we have.

18. Prohibited activities

You may use the Services only for their intended purpose: reading our content and cooking for the cats of your household. In particular, you agree not to:

19. Third-party websites, affiliate links and supplements

Other websites. The Site links to other websites, including retailers that sell the supplements and equipment our recipes use. We do not control those websites, we are not responsible for their content, products, prices, availability or privacy practices, and these Terms do not govern them. A purchase on another website is between you and that seller, under that seller’s terms and return policy.

Affiliate links. Some links are affiliate links. We may earn a commission on qualifying purchases at no extra cost to you. We take part in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program and in affiliate programs of other retailers; our Disclaimer page lists them. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Our recommendations are our own: we name products we believe are suitable for the recipe.

Supplements and products. We are not responsible for the quality, safety or performance of any product sold by someone else, and product formulations and availability can change without notice. Check each product’s label and dose yourself. Where a recipe lists an alternative product, use it at the amount the recipe gives.

20. Veterinary and nutrition disclaimer

The recipes, guides and nutrition information on the Site are general information for cat owners. The Lils LLC is not a veterinary practice, and we are not licensed veterinarians or board-certified veterinary nutritionists. Nothing on the Site is veterinary advice, diagnosis or treatment for your cat.

Our recipes are formulated to follow published nutrient guidelines. Each recipe page names the guidelines that recipe is formulated to follow (FEDIAF, AAFCO, NRC) and shows its nutrient analysis against all three. The analyses are calculated from ingredient and supplement data, not measured in a laboratory, and no recipe has been certified by any authority or tested in feeding trials. We do not guarantee any result or health outcome, and we do not guarantee that a recipe is right for every individual cat.

Every cat is different. Cats with a diagnosed health condition, kittens, pregnant or nursing cats, and cats with allergies or special dietary needs may need something different. Talk to your veterinarian in those cases, and whenever you are unsure. If you change a recipe, substitute an ingredient or a supplement, skip one, or change the amounts (other than the water, or the batch size through the Site’s scaling), the result is no longer our recipe, and you are responsible for it.

You use the recipes and the information on the Site at your own risk. To the fullest extent the law allows, The Lils LLC is not liable for any illness, injury, loss or death of any animal arising from the use or misuse of our recipes or information. Our Disclaimer page has more.

21. Privacy

Our Privacy Policy, at thelils.com/privacy, explains what personal information we collect, how we use it and your rights. It is part of these Terms. The Services are hosted in the United States; if you use them from elsewhere, your information is transferred to and processed in the United States.

22. Electronic communications and service messages

Doing business electronically. You agree that we may communicate with you electronically: by email and through the Site. Agreements, notices, disclosures and records we provide electronically satisfy any requirement that they be in writing, and you agree to electronic signatures, records and receipts.

Service messages. As an account holder, and especially as a subscriber, you receive messages that are part of the service: order and payment confirmations, receipts, confirmations of changes you make to your subscription, reminders before an annual renewal, failed-payment notices, price-change notices, cancellation and ending confirmations, notices about these Terms, and replies to your requests. You cannot opt out of service messages while you hold an account or a subscription. Our own service emails contain no links; to act on one, go to the Site and sign in to your account. Stripe, our payment provider, emails receipts and payment confirmations for us, and those may contain links to Stripe’s pages.

Marketing. Our newsletter is separate and optional. Every newsletter has an unsubscribe link.

23. Disclaimer of warranties

THE SERVICES AND THE CONTENT ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE”. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICES WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE OR SECURE, THAT DEFECTS WILL BE CORRECTED, OR THAT THE CONTENT IS COMPLETE, ACCURATE OR CURRENT. SECTION 20 APPLIES TO ALL NUTRITION AND HEALTH INFORMATION. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties, so some of these exclusions may not apply to you (section 28).

24. Limitation of liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS, THE LILS LLC AND ITS MEMBERS, MANAGERS, EMPLOYEES AND AGENTS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, SPECIAL, EXEMPLARY OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, LOST DATA OR LOSS OF GOODWILL, ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THE SERVICES OR THESE TERMS, EVEN IF WE WERE TOLD SUCH DAMAGES WERE POSSIBLE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ALL CLAIMS, WHATEVER THEIR BASIS, IS LIMITED TO THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM. Some jurisdictions do not allow some of these limitations, so they may not apply to you, and you may have additional rights (section 28).

25. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless The Lils LLC and its members, managers, employees and agents from any claim, loss, liability, damage, cost or expense, including reasonable attorneys’ fees, brought by a third party and arising from your breach of these Terms, your misuse of the Services or the Content, or your violation of the law or of someone else’s rights. We may take over the defense of any matter you must indemnify us for, and you agree to cooperate with us.

26. Governing law

These Terms and any dispute between you and us are governed by the laws of the District of Columbia, United States, without regard to its conflict of law rules, except where the law of the place where you live gives you protections that apply regardless of this choice (section 28). This choice of law does not make the consumer protection statutes of the District of Columbia apply to you if they would not apply to you without it.

27. Dispute resolution

Talk to us first. Most problems are solved by a message to support. Before starting any formal proceeding, you and we agree to try to resolve the dispute informally for at least 30 days from the day one of us sends the other a written notice of the dispute. Send your notice to ; a message through the contact form or to reaches us too.

Binding arbitration. If we cannot resolve a dispute informally, it will be resolved by binding arbitration rather than in court, except as stated below. The arbitration is administered by the American Arbitration Association under its Consumer Arbitration Rules. It takes place in the District of Columbia or, if you are a consumer, where you live or by video or telephone, as the rules allow. YOU UNDERSTAND THAT WITHOUT THIS SECTION YOU WOULD HAVE THE RIGHT TO SUE IN COURT AND TO A JURY TRIAL.

Individual claims only. You and we agree that each of us may bring claims against the other only individually, and not as a plaintiff or class member in any class, consolidated or representative proceeding, to the fullest extent the law allows.

Exceptions. Either of us may bring an individual claim in small claims court if it qualifies, and either of us may seek an injunction or other urgent relief in court to protect intellectual property or to stop unauthorized use of the Services or the Content.

Opt-out. You may opt out of this arbitration agreement by sending us written notice within 30 days of the day you first accept these Terms, with your name and the email address of your account. If you opt out, this section 27 does not apply to you, but the rest of these Terms does.

28. If you live outside the United States

We sell in US dollars, and our Services are hosted in the United States. You are responsible for complying with the laws of the place where you live, and you may use the Services only where that is lawful.

If you live in a country, state or province whose law gives consumers rights that cannot be excluded by agreement, those rights apply to you despite anything in these Terms, and nothing here limits them. In particular:

  • European Union and United Kingdom. You may have a right to withdraw from a contract within 14 days. When you subscribe, you ask us to start the subscription at once. A recipe credit is supplied in full when it reaches your account, and a recipe in full when you add it to your library, and you acknowledge that once you have used a credit or bought a recipe at the subscriber price you lose the right to withdraw for that recipe. If you withdraw from the subscription within 14 days, you pay for what we supplied before you told us: each credit you used, at the price you paid per credit, and, for the rest of the payment, the part of the period that has elapsed; we refund the remainder. Our 14 day first-charge window (section 16) is in addition to that right.
  • Canada. Provincial consumer protection laws, including rules on internet agreements and automatic renewals, apply to you where they do.

29. Changes to these Terms

We may change these Terms. When we do, we post the new version on the Site with a new “Last updated” date. If a change is material, we also email the account holders it affects before it takes effect. For subscribers, a material change takes effect at your first renewal that is at least 30 days after our email; if you do not agree with it, cancel before that renewal and the change will not apply to the period you have paid for. For everyone else, a material change takes effect 30 days after our email, or on the date the email names. Using the Services after a change takes effect means you accept it. Purchases made under an earlier version keep the rights that version gave you for those purchases, including lifetime access under section 4. A change to section 27 does not apply to a dispute that either of us notified the other of before the change took effect.

30. General terms

Our management of the Services. We may monitor the Services for breaches of these Terms, remove content, limit features, and manage the Services to protect our rights, our customers and the proper working of the Site. We may correct errors, inaccuracies and omissions on the Site, including in descriptions, prices and availability, at any time, and we may change or discontinue any part of the Site or the Services, with the notice sections 14 and 15 provide for subscribers.

Your data. We keep records of your orders, your subscription and your library to run the Services. We make regular backups, but you are responsible for keeping your own copies of anything you need, such as printed recipes.

The whole agreement. These Terms, with the Privacy Policy, the Refund Policy and the plan terms shown when you subscribe, are the whole agreement between you and us about the Services. If a court finds part of these Terms unenforceable, the rest stays in force. If we do not enforce a right, we do not give it up. We may assign our rights and obligations under these Terms, for example if our business is sold. You may not assign yours. We are not liable for delays or failures caused by events outside our reasonable control. Nothing in these Terms creates a partnership, joint venture, employment or agency relationship between you and us.
